How to Move Your Home With Ease
Removalists online getting settled into your new home is an exciting time, but it can be overwhelming. It’s important to plan your move, budget for it and break it down into doable tasks.
Start by sorting your belongings and tossing, selling or donating what you don’t need. Then begin packing your things, room-by-room.
The more organized you are before you start packing, the less stressful it will be. A merciless purge of unnecessary items will reduce the amount of things you need to pack and move, and it’ll make unpacking much easier.
As you’re cleaning, organize items you want to keep and sort out what to donate or sell. This will not only save you money on moving expenses but will also ensure your new home isn’t full of clutter and items you don’t need or use.
It’s a good idea to purchase or collect boxes well before the day of your move, this will help you avoid last minute rushes at the store. Stock up on packing supplies as well, such as box cutters, adhesive bandages and permanent markers, tape, trash bags, paper towels and more.
When it comes to packing, start with items that aren’t used often, such as seasonal clothing and decorations, and work your way towards your most used rooms. It’s also worth taking the time to measure doorways and other space in your new home, so you can work out what furniture will fit (and what won’t) before you start packing.
Consider color coding your boxes and labeling them based on room, this will make it much easier to find items when you need them on the move or once you’re in your new home. Also, putting heavy items at the bottom of the box will protect delicate items, such as glassware and ceramics, from being crushed.
Lastly, consider removing fixtures and accessories from larger pieces of furniture before you pack them. For example, remove drawers from a dresser and wrap them separately, or place them in garbage bags. This will help to reduce the overall weight of the item which will be a major benefit for you and your movers! You may also be able to shrink-wrap certain pieces of furniture.
If you’re planning to hire movers, rent supplies or book other professionals like painters and cleaners, book early. This will help ensure you get the services you need, especially during peak moving season. It’s also a good idea to change your address well in advance of the move so that your utility providers and other service providers can send you your final bills. You may also want to contact your council tax to let them know you’re moving. Lastly, pack a duffle bag or suitcase with personal items you’ll need right away, like important documents, medication, chargers and a few changes of clothes.
